New Torah - Commissioned
Purchase Guidelines Simple steps to commissioning a new Sefer Torah. Selection: 1) Select the script style script you like. 2) Choose a script according to the comfort and ease to read. 3) Involve the clergy and all others who regularly read from the Torah. 4) Obtain a sample of one standard section (Yeriah) of the actual Parchment to be used for your Sefer Torah with your chosen Sofer’s script on this section. Agreement: The points below will be clearly stipulated and signed in a legal document. • The exact height of the new Torah (standard size is 17.75”-19”). • The maximum weight of your new scroll (A 17.75” Torah should not weigh more than 10 lbs). • The number of fill-in letters for your Torah Project and/or Siyum HaTorah. • As each of the five books is completed, these should be sent to you. • You should receive the computer report of the Torah scan of your Torah to ensure it has accurately been through a spell checked. • Payments should be approximately one-sixth up front and one sixth after receiving each of the five books of the Torah. • Set the delivery date of the scroll. It should be completed and received approximately one month before the Siyum Torah ceremony. • Know the name, address & phone number of the actual sofer who writes your Sefer Torah. If possible visit him at work in Israel or America. The more informed you are, the smoother your experience will be!
